Cruel Neglect

Moored above Kegworth Deep, we have just got back from an evening stroll with our V.  We spotted an old wagon in a field by the river, looking much the worse for a bit of damage and neglect.  I think it`s an ERF, but I might be wrong.

Cruel neglect

Whatever it is, or was, the old lorry made us think of M and how we must get out the polish, touch up paint, WD40 ... wallet, and get her back to her old self.  It has been a bit of a suprise just how thin the layer of chrome is on some of M's fittings.  The mushrooms are surviving best, along with the hull`s other skin fittings, but the roof steps and some other cheaper bits have lost most of their coating.  We followed advice to use light oil (cycle oil), as it gets among the flakes of chrome, and then use a wax to coat the part.  So, we are a bit disappointed, having looked after M's chrome, that it has deteriorated so much. Maybe the big freeze last winter was too much.

M at Kegworth lock cut.  TLC starts here!

The river is quiet for a late summer(ish) weekend but there are a few cruisers and canoes about.  Met Blue Eyes a 40ft cruiser stern heading for Coventry, and helped with the heavy gates at Kegworth..  The young couple on board (who have just bought the boat) picked her up from Pillings Lock earlier today and are intending to live aboard.

A must have gadget is surely the iPhone.  We are tethering on Sue`s to write this blog and to keep an eye on the weather, and to keep in touch by email and to ... .

Thirty geese have just flown over in formation and landed in a field by the river, and a family of swans are begging for scraps at the hatch.
